Flying 6 hours with a family of four including a lap infant who is big for his age squished into 3 seats does not sound enticing. ✈️
How did we get 2 rows/6 seats to ourselves from San Diego to Kauai on the departure AND return flight!? 💺 💺 💺 💺 💺 💺
Read below. And don’t forget to double tap if you find this helpful.

- Fly Southwest
Take advantage of southwest’s non-assigned seating. Everyone can sit where they like. We board with families right after A boards.
- Southwest’s new CEO said assigned seating may be coming to Southwest in the future so take advantage of this now!
- Fly during off peak times
Flying during non school holidays means your flight may not be fully booked, which means there will be empty seats.
- When you sit put one parent and one child in one row and the other parent and other child in another row.

This isn’t saving seats. My husband and I would both rather have aisle seats since we’re tall. People will just do anything they can not to sit next to babies, toddlers and little kids.
- Bonus: this is when a crying baby comes in handy. I had my 19 month old sit on my lap while everyone was boarding. My daughter and husband were in the other row inches away. My son was jealous his sister and dad were sitting together so he was crying. I had two seats open next to me and everyone still rather sit in middle seats than sit next to a crying baby. (He wasn’t in distress. Just jealous.) As soon as everyone boarded, my son got settled and didn’t cry the rest of the flight.
We enjoyed 2 full rows.
